ETIQUETTE

 BOWLS IS A FRIENDLY GAME.  LET THE EXERCISE OF CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS, COURTESY AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP ADD CHARM TO A SKILFUL AND REWARDING SPORT.

HERE ARE A FEW TIPS WHICH MAY HELP:

HINTS FOR BEGINNERS (AND OTHERS)

 BOWLS SHOULD NOT BE DROPPED ON THE GREEN.

  1. DO NOT STAND ON THE EDGES OF THE GREEN.
  2. NO SMOKING OUTSIDE OF DESIGNATED AREAS.
  3. BOWLS SHOULD NOT BE KICKED IN UNTIL THE SHOT HAS BEEN DECIDED.
  4. AFTER DELIVERING A BOWL, A PLAYER SHOULD RETIRE TO AT LEAST TWO METRES BEHIND THE MAT. HE/SHE SHOULD NOT TAKE UP A POSITION AT OR IN FRONT OF THE MAT.
  5. DON’T DELAY THE GAMES. ALL PLAYERS AT THE MAT END MUST ASSIST TO CLEAR THE BOWLS AWAY AS SOON AS THE END IS DECLARED.  THIS INCLUDES THE SECOND.
  6. DON’T WANDER AROUND OR MOVE ABOUT THE HEAD WHEN A PLAYER IS ABOUT TO DELIVER A BOWL, AND PARTICULARLY DO NOT STAND IN LINE WITH THE BOUNDARY PEGS.
  7. DON’T TALK IN A LOUD TONE WHILST A PLAYER IS ABOUT TO DELIVER A BOWL.
  8. WHEN WATCHING A MATCH, ALWAYS OBSERVE STRICT NEUTRALITY.
  9. ADVICE OR CRITICISM MUST NOT BE GIVEN. BARRACKING IS BAD FORM.
  10. ALL BOWLERS SHOULD KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE LAWS OF THE GAME, AS LAID DOWN BY BOWLS AUSTRALIA.

 “DO”

 GIVE FULL SUPPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF YOUR TEAM AND SKIPPER.

  1. ADVISE YOUR OPPONENT IF UNABLE TO KEEP AN APPOINTMENT FOR ANY GAME.
  2. ALWAYS CONFORM TO THE CORRECT ATTIRE FOR PLAY.
  3. APPLAUD GOOD SHOTS AND GENERALLY ENCOURAGE ALL PLAYERS.
  4. KEEP STILL AND SILENT WHILST YOUR OPPONENT AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE TEAM ARE PLAYING.
  5. ALWAYS WATCH THE PLAYS. TAKE AN INTEREST WITHOUT INTERFERING
  6. PLAY ALWAYS FOR THE SIDE AND NOT INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS.

“DON’T”

 ARGUE WITH THE CAPTAIN ON THE SHOT TO PLAY.

  1. INTERFERE WITH THE CAPTAIN UNLESS THE POSITION IS CHANGED.
  2. DEVELOP MANNERISMS WHICH INDICATE DISPLEASURE AT INDIFFERENT PLAYS OR SUCCESS.
  3. FOLLOW THE BOWL FURTHER THAN THE RULES ALLOW OR STRAY ONTO THE ADJOINING RINK
  4. HAVE EXCUSES FOR BAD PLAY AND READILY ACCEPT PRAISE FOR SUCCESS.
  5. DISPUTE THE UMPIRE’S DECISION.
  6. GIVE ADVICE TO PLAYERS FROM THE BANK.
  7. DO NOT ABUSE THE PRIVILEGES OF THE CLUB.

 CODE OF CONDUCT

FOR BENALLA BOWLS CLUB’S

OUTDOOR BOWLS SECTION

 When representing the Club, members are expected to do so in the spirit of the game and abide by this Code before, during and after games.

The following are examples (but not a complete list) of unacceptable actions and are violations of this Code:

 (a) Use of offensive language– any forms of physical, verbal, mental, emotional and/or sexual abuse, stalk, vilification or discrimination on the basis of gender, creed, sexual orientation, disability or ethnic origin of a member or visitor to the Club.  Accept that at times you may not be selected.  When not selected encourage your team, other teams and be prepared to play at all times.

(b) Abuse: towards your Skipper, Managers, Umpires, threats to or intimidation of Club committees or other controlling bodies, or staff who are responsible for particular events or selectors in the course of their duties, therefore directions should be adhered to.  Please do not contact Selectors on Pennant Days (they are entitled to play without any interference) the only exception will be if you are unable to play.

(c) Never argue with an umpire, official, player or spectator.  If such an issue should arise which cannot be resolved amicably, it should be brought to the attention of your manager.

(d) Wilful damage to the Club or the Club’s property (such as furniture, fittings, equipment, glasses etc).

(e) Comply with any lawful and reasonable direction given by someone who has authority to give directions.

(f) Bringing the Club, any other member of the Club or the sport of lawn bowls into disrepute.

(g) Smoking within 3 metres of the greens is prohibited; smoking on any of the greens is definitely prohibited.  If this is not adhered to, this is a reportable offence.  There are designated smoking areas at this Club, please use them.

(h) The use of social media or online internet forums for what is deemed to be detrimental or defamatory to the Club, its members or the sport of lawn bowls.

(i) Members, family and guests are encouraged to enjoy the hospitality of the club without fear of acts of vilification or verbal abuse.

 VISITING THE OTHER CLUBS

 Members visiting other Clubs must comply fully with their Constitution, Rules and By-Laws of that Club and they too must comply with our clubs Constitution, Rules and By-Laws

 DRUGS IN SPORT

 The Benalla Bowls Club condemns the use of performance enhancing drugs.  The use of or trafficking in performance enhancing drugs or recreational drugs in any situation where you are perceived as representing the Club is a violation of this Code.

The Management and Committee of the Benalla Bowling Club may take action if any member is perceived to have violated this Code of Conduct of the Club and will initially investigate the allegations.

Any member whose actions are considered to be in breach of this Code may, after being heard, will be reprimanded or suspended from the Club.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

 TO ALL PENNANT PLAYERS FOR THE UPCOMING 2021/2022 PENNANT SEASON:

 By placing your name on the availability list for either pennant competitions you are agreeing to the following guidelines.

  • By making yourself available for selection you agree to participate in as many practice matches, training sessions and organised coaching sessions as practicable. Also keep in mind this commitment should include being available for all games for the season including finals and state finals where possible.
  • You will be on time for all games and in the correct attire including being on time for bus departures. It is also up to each individual player to inform the selectors of illness or sudden unavailability and to inform your manager if you intend on taking your own car.
  • We would like the following procedures to be adhered to.
  1. If you are unhappy or disagree with the position that you have been selected in, you are expected to play in this position and then seek a meeting with the selection committee at the next available opportunity.
  2. Personal criticisms towards any member, committee member, selector and bowls coordinator will not be accepted.
  3. If any individuals are in breach of this, the necessary action will be taken. For example, you may not be considered for selection for a period of one week.  If deemed to be severe enough it could be longer, or it may be dealt with directly by the bowls executive.
